Home Staging – Make a Great First Impression

Home StagingHomes Staging – Make a Great First Impression

When looking for my first job I was always told to “dress for success” in order to make a good first impression. This is exactly what homeowners need to think about when they decide to sell their home. Making a good first impression on home buyers sets the stage for a successful sale. While there are a lot of things to consider when putting your house on the market, making sure you’re your house is clean and clutter free is a good place to start. Here are a few things to things about.

  • Light and bright is your goal. Wash all the windows and screens to let more light in.
  • Get rid of ALL the clutter around the house. Throw out the stacks of old magazines, catalogs and newspapers. Pack away out of season clothing so your closets look spacious. Edit out any small decorative items. Keep things simple! You don’t want to distract home buyers from seeing what is most important…the house.
  • We spend a lot of time in the kitchen so make sure it is spotless. Remember to clean out refrigerator, stove and microwave.
  • Pay special attention to the bathrooms. Put all personal items away. Make sure the grout is clean and there is no nasty grime around the tub.
  • Have the carpeting and drapes professionally cleaned. This will help eliminate any odors from cooking, pets or smoking.
  • Clean out the gutters, sweep sidewalks and freshen up mulch. Think about power-washing the front porch, patio and deck.
  • Don’t forget the garage. Clean it out. Try not to fill your garage with all the things you have taken out of the house. If it is a two-car garage, make sure you can fit two cars in it!

A clean and clutter free house makes a good first impression. Home buyers want to know that this house is well cared for so they will feel comfortable eating, sleeping and spending time with their family.
